Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – (UPDATE 7/10) The investigation into the shooting that occurred in the 2100 block of South 16th Street on Tuesday revealed the 12-year-old juvenile’s gunshot wound in the torso was self-inflicted. Police report his injuries are non-life threatening. SPD is investigating how the firearm was acquired and ownership.

(7/9) Springfield police are investigating the afternoon shooting of a male juvenile. Officers responded around 3 p.m. Tuesday to the 2100 block of South 16th Street for a report of a shooting. At the location, officers found the juvenile with a gunshot wound to the torso. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. A suspect description is not available at this time.
