Springfield, ILĀ (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sangamon County reported Friday morning it experienced a system-wide outage affecting multiple departments due to a global issue announced by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm.
In a press release, the county said the outage affected multiple departments, and staff worked diligently overnight to quickly restore key public safety departments such as the Sangamon County Jail, Sheriff’s Office, and Court System.
Additional departments, including Public Health, County Clerk, Supervisor of Assessments, and Recorder of Deeds Office were also been restored. Staff continued to address PCs affected by the outage on Friday, but all county departments were open and operational.
According to the Associated Press, the trouble was sparked by an update issued by CrowdStrike and only affected its customers running Microsoft Windows. The company said it was not the result of hacking or a cyberattack. Businesses and governments worldwide experienced hours-long disruptions.
