The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski today are announcing Springfield’s Moving Pillsbury Forward project has been selected to receive a more than $787,000 dollar grant funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.
The grant will be used to fund cleanup efforts necessary for revitalizing the site.
The 18-acre Pillsbury site housed numerous grain silos and structures used for grain milling, manufacturing, warehousing and offices.
The area surrounding the site consists of a large railyard to the north and east and residential properties to the south and west.
Since closing in 2001, the site has fallen into disrepair. The grant will also support community involvement activities.
