WEEKDAY MORNINGS 5:30am – 9:00am , NEWSCASTS:  9am – 12pm

How it all started (radio)

A high school teacher who knew of my interest in radio saw something in the paper that they needed volunteers at the place that reads newspapers to the blind. I think I was 15 and read into a tape recorder, then they broadcast the tapes over, I think, a carrier current.

How it’s going

I have been with Saga Communications and in Springfield since March 2007, first with Illinois Radio Network at the Capitol and eventually at WTAX but still at the Capitol, also appearing on WBBM in Chicago and WJBC in Bloomington.

My favorite local hobby

Does sleeping count? I also roast my own coffee (www.daveshomeroast.com and accumulate used books. (T-shirt: It’s Not Hoarding If It’s Books).

My favorite local event

Illinois State Fair. As a 1970’s radio jingle stresses, it’s right in your own back yard!

My family

Wife Corrina, adult children Clifford and Isaac. Clifford has a neurological illness called Batten disease (www.bdsra.org).

Where I came from

Born and raised in Champaign and graduated from Centennial High School. Graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and was on the air all four years there. Worked at stations in northern Michigan and central Indiana leading to eleven years at WMBD in Peoria and then Springfield.

My hidden talent or claim to fame

Memorizing people’s license plate numbers. In Peoria I could go around the table in the conference room. It’s good to let people know what you are capable of.
