John “Jack” Navins loved to share Lincoln’s story with visitors to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Navins volunteered at the museum for 17 years before his sudden passing last year.
Now, his family is honoring his memory with a $100,000 donation in his name. The money will help the museum build a roughly $500,000 dollar exhibit that teaches children about the rights and responsibilities of being a good citizen.
Navins spent 22 years in the Navy. His sisters, Mary Pat Wlaznik and Kitty Warner, say Jack felt it was important for people to contribute to society as good citizens, and he would be excited to a part of encouraging children to follow Lincoln’s example.
