If the weather is good, expect up to 2,000 classic cars to hit the streets of Springfield for the 22nd Annual Interantional Route 66 Mother Road Festival cruise on Friday night. Organizer Greg Cooper, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, says the first 17 cars in the parade will be a Hail to Heroes and will feature area veterans including a local WWII veteran. The cruise kicks off from the Capital City Shopping Center on Dirksen at 6:15 p.m.
Cooper says registrations for this year are already outpacing last year. Classic cars will be on display in the streets of downtown centered around the Old State Capitol. My Classic TV host Dennis Gage will be walking around the show for selfies and autographs. Gage will also bestow the Mustache Award to his favorite classic car. The festival features live music Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday. For more information, log on to route66fest.com.
