Marriott may soon be bringing its Delta brand to one of the tallest buildings in Springfield’s skyline. Ryan McCrady with Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance, appearing on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, says he has been working with Mayor Langfelder and Tower Capital, the current owner of the Wyndham City Centre, to get the building redeveloped as a Marriott property.
McCrady says the funding would be part of a targeted Tax Increment Finance district, and the agreement would be for 23 years. That’s how long a TIF district can be in place. The proposed Marriott would include a full conference center and 250 hotel rooms. The building would also house 200 market-rate apartments, according to McCrady. A full overhaul including the HVAC system, elevators and windows are included in the plan. The project requires the approval of the city council.
