Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Hundreds gathered Wednesday in front of the Capitol for a rally prior to the March for Life. This year’s event celebrated the reversal of the Roe v. Wade reversal, leaving the questions of abortion to the states.
So, what about the politics of it all?
“I think it’s sad,” said Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. “I think first of all, it’s unfortunate that the Democrats seem to have gone over to 100 per cent in the pro-abortion debate. There was a time when there were pro-life Democrats, and there were even pro-choice Republicans.
“It was not always that clear cut.”
Another speaker, State Sen. Terri Bryant (pictured) (R-Murphysboro), said while many accept abortion and embrace a woman’s right to choose, “that is not what the Lord tells us to do.”
Bryan’s own family faced a decision when her daughter had an unexpected pregnancy out of wedlock. The decision was to go ahead with the pregnancy, and her daughter gave birth to twins.
Paprocki said it’s especially troubling that not only does Gov. JB Pritzker preside over a state now seen as an abortion “oasis” with clinics ringing the state’s borders, but Pritzker is also funding a national pro-choice campaign.
