Springfield, IL  (capitolcitynow.com) Dissatisfaction continues over Republic Services’ trash pickup in Springfield – after a surprise switch from Waste Management earlier this year.

“There are people whose garbage has not been picked up for two or three weeks,” said Ald. Lakeisha Purchase. “What I have been doing is asking my constituents – which I don’t feel like I should make them go that extra step – but ask them could you please go to republic services and make sure that your property is listed in their system.”

Republic’s Springfield general manager, Jacob Youngblood, said, “We are very apologetic over the issues that the residents are seeing. When the transfer of the information came to us, for whatever reason, there was a lack of information received, so we were under the assumption that, like us, if you were a Republic customer, you have a blue container and are identifiable as our customer. When we took a lot of these Waste Management customers over, they didn’t necessarily have that.”

Waste Management containers are green.

Youngblood was there because a $1.1 million leaf contract was on the agenda. Citing ongoing negotiations, lawmakers did not vote on it.
