Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – In April the Illinois State Police and other law enforcement agencies put the focus on distracted driving.
Distracted Driving Enforcement Program patrols were held in Adams and Sangamon counties through the month.
ISP says the program provided extra patrol coverage for ISP officers to focus on saving lives and reducing serious crashes by enforcing distracted driving laws.
They say they gave out 46 citations for folks using a hand-held phone/device while driving and 32 Texting While Driving citations.
ISP says they gave out 78 other ‘distracted driving’ citations and a total of all citations 170 in all.
This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
