Mayor Buscher has made the first round of announcements for Springfield department heads.

Police chief Ken Scarlette, tourism director Scott Dahl, and chief utility engineer Doug Brown retain their jobs as holdovers from the Langfelder administration. Public works director Nate Bottom becomes chief city engineer, with Dave Fuchs being named public works director.

Former fire marshal Ed Canny becomes fire chief, replacing Brandon Blough. Mike Disco will serve as chief of staff. Ramona Metzger, the comptroller, replaces Bill McCarty as budget director. Senior corporation counsel Steve Rahn is interim corporation counsel, displacing Jim Zerkle. Val Yazell, whom former mayor Jim Langfelder hired and then fired as economic development director, returns to that job on an interim basis. Ethan Posey will succeed Juan Huerta as community relations director. The new communications director will be Haley Wilson, replacing Julia Frevert.

A news release from Buscher’s office indicates more announcements to come. Buscher’s first council meeting will be Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
