The Chatham Fire Department is reminding everyone to check your smoke detectors monthly and make sure they are under ten years old. The reminder comes after a Chatham woman was able to safely evacuate her home on Wesley Chapel Road when fire broke out just before noon on Thursday. She was alerted by the home’s smoke alarms and was able to leave with two of her pets. Firefighters from Chatham, Auburn and New Berlin assisted in battling the blaze. A third pet, the family dog, was found and safely rescued by firefighters. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.
