Springfield, IL (wtax.com) – Business, faith, civic and community leaders are once again being given the chance to go behind the scenes at the FBI Springfield Field Office as part of the Citizen’s Academy. Applications and nominations are now being accepted. Participants will learn about the structure and operation of the FBI and take part in firearms demonstrations and other practical problem-solving activities.
“The FBI places a premium on relationships and Citizens Academy is a proven program for building and maintaining meaningful relationships that help serve and protect our communities,” said FBI Springfield Special Agent in Charge David Nanz. “Citizens Academy builds trust through open and honest conversations about what we’re seeing and what we’re worried about, and how we can help each other.” Many participants go on to participate in crime prevention and education efforts in the community, according to Nanz.
The six-to-eight-week program starts September 5th and applications are due by June 1st. Participants must live or work in Central or Southern Illinois (within the FBI Springfield’s area of responsibility) and be 21 or olde and a United States citizen. Those chosen to attend the academy will undergo a background check with fingerprinting. More information is available on the FBI website.
