Guests at a pair of east side motels apparently find it convenient to walk over to S & K Buick GMC and steal things. The car dealership’s Jim Kroll brought his concerns to the city council Tuesday, saying litter in his lot includes hypodermic needles.

Kroll said at one point, someone came into the dealership, stole an employee’s keys and car, then went to that employee’s home and stole more things.

“I spent $40,000 to put in security cameras,” Kroll said. “I can watch them steal from me now.”

Police Chief Ken Scarlette said as more officers join the force, there will be more of a police presence around Dirksen Parkway and South Grand Avenue.
