This Saturday, April 6th, City Water, Light and Power’s Land & Water Resources Division and the City Arborist invite the public to a free Special Tree Seminar & Mulching Demonstration event at Lake Springfield, as part of Springfield’s celebration of Earth Month. The event is from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Cottonhill Park West.
Sarah Lindholm with CWLP’s Land and Water Resources division and Guy Sternberg, an international oak expert from Starhill Forest Arboretum will give presentations on CWLP tree conservation efforts around Lake Springfield, along with discussions into the biology and importance of Springfield’s national champion Deam Oak and rare Blue Ash population. City Arborist Brad Hamel with the Office of Public Works will provide a hands-on demonstration and talk on proper tree mulching. The mulching demonstration teaches proper mulching technique, and discusses why mulching is so important and how improper mulching can harm a tree.
This event is informal and family friendly. Cottonhill Park West is located near the southern end of East Lake Shore Drive, near Exit 88 off I-55.
