The discussion of forgiving CWLP debts for the Wyndham, inevitably Tuesday included a revised proposal to help the troubled high-rise hotel. It goes before the council’s committee of the whole next week.
“We will be discussing this again, so there’s another bite at the apple,” said Mayor Langfelder, noting the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance was not in favor of previous plans to turn much of the hotel into apartments. “I went back, that’s how i am, I’m determined to get things done, (The SSGA) felt that was the right direction to go, I had them meet with each council member to de-politicize the project. Base it on the facts.”
Nevertheless, the election is less than four weeks away, with city treasurer Misty Buscher opposing the mayor and contested races in five wards, two of which will include incumbent aldermen.
The current proposal has the hotel taking on the Delta by Marriott brand, with 250 hotel rooms and 200 apartments, as the council decided the proposal to restrict the amount of utility bills the mayor can forgive needs more work.
