The storms which taught many of us how to spell and pronounce the word derecho have the attention of the USDA.
Secretary Tom Vilsack Wednesday issued as disaster designation for Sangamon, Christian, Hancock, McDonough, and Washington counties. Aid is available for all counties adjacent to those five, as well.
“It’s good to hear that government has backup for folks who are in need,” said Sangamon County Farm Bureau manager Jim Birge. “A lot of our farmers carry crop insurance and insurance on their farm property and things, and that is covered under most insurance policies.”
Anybody seeking to make a claim or more information should contact their local USDA Service Center.
