Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The FBI Springfield office has set up what they call a Southern Illinois Organized Crime Task Force and they are getting down to work.
The task force was set up to identify, target and prosecute ‘transitional’ criminal organizations.
Their primary focus is on drug crimes and gangs operating from Mexico to Southern Illinois.
To that end the FBI task force is announcing the arrest of eight southern Illinois residents on a variety of drug crimes all involving the manufacture, distribution and sale of methamphetamine.
The Bureau says it is highly unusual for them to release details of an investigation at this early stage, even to include mugshots, but they say they feel it is important for the public to know about the work they are doing to create safer communities.
