Springfield, Illinois – On Monday at approximately 9:18 p.m., the Springfield Police Department
Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of E. Adams Street. Officers made contact with
the driver who was identified as Xander McCulley (male, 20 years old) of Springfield.
As the officers were speaking with McCulley they could smell the odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle. A search of the
vehicle was conducted which led to the officers locating a Glock 9mm pistol, Ruger AR rifle, Smith and Wesson
9mm pistol, Ruger Pistol, $1,700 in currency, suspected Xanax, Adderall, and 272 grams of cannabis.
The information gathered from the traffic stop allowed the officers to obtain a search warrant for a residence.
in the 2100 block of E Adams. During the search, officers located firearm ammunition, firearm accessories,
and Xanax bars.
McCulley was arrested for armed violence, possession of a firearm – No FOID, aggravated unlawful use of a
weapon, possession of cannabis – over 100 grams, and delivery of cannabis – over 30 grams.
McCulley was taken to the Sangamon County Jail where he awaits formal charges from the Sangamon County
State’s Attorney’s Office.
