Illinois is one of just two states with no oversight on how much you pay for car insurance.

From the Illinois Public Interest Research Group, Abe Scarr says it’s just not fair.

“The top ten car insurers in Illinois raised rates by over $1.1 billion in 2022,” said Scarr. “They did so.unilaterally, without any pushback or review by regulators,  because Illinois law does not empower regulators to do so.

“Allstate has already raised rates again in 2023, costing average policyholders $174 more per year, and that is on top of significant rate increases last year.”

Another complaint: factors such as your credit score go into calculating those rates.

An insurance coalition says it uses a larger sample size and more accepted metrics than Scarr is.
