The Illinois Department of Insurance announced Friday a $605,000 fine for Health Care Service Corporation, the parent company of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, for violating the Network Adequacy and Transparency Act.
IDOI Director Dana Popish Severinghaus says, “The law requires health insurance companies to have a provider network that meets proper time and distance standards for consumers to receive care, as well as up-to-date, accurate directories identifying which providers are in-network.”
Health Care Service Corporation paid the fine and agreed to take corrective action based on the exam findings. Severinghaus says they will conduct follow up exams to make sure the company stays in compliance.
