The Illinois Dept of Transportation and the Illinois State Police held their annual ‘Winter Weather Get Together’ where they meet with the media and spread the message of safe driving habits once winter weather hits.

The event was held at the IDOT West Yard on N. Lincoln and members of the IDOT crews who will keep the roads safe were on hand to talk about their experiences driving 12-hour shifts in blizzard conditions.

Illinois State Police, Capt. Jody Huffman and Lt. Josh Adcock talked about the need for drivers to be especially aware of Scott’s Law in snow and icy conditions.

They also says make sure your car and you are ready for any emergency by having a full tank, a fully charged phone and emergency supplies.

IDOT spokesperson, Paul Wappel, says the big message they want to convey: DON’T CROWD THE PLOW. Wappel says the mild winter last year means there is plenty of road salt at the ready when needed.
