Planned Parenthood says it will resume offering abortions in Wisconsin next week after a judge ruled that an 1849 law that seemingly banned the procedure actually didn’t apply to abortions. The resumption of abortions at clinics in Milwaukee and Madison comes as the lawsuit challenging the state law continues in county court. It is expected to eventually reach the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) released a statement Thursday saying since Roe v. Wade was overturned, it saw a 600% increase in patients from Wisconsin.  Starting in July of 2022, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Illinois shared a unique partnership where PPWI clinicians traveled to the PPIL Waukegan health center to provide care.

Jennifer Welch, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, said “We are thrilled Wisconsin patients have a choice and are not forced to flee their state for health care and clinicians can provide care in their home state.”
