Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – An Illinois State Police squad car was struck by a Springfield man on Interstate 55 Saturday night. ISP troopers were investigating a traffic crash south of Litchfield when a squad car was struck by a Toyota driven by 76-year-old Fred Stewart of Springfield.

The trooper was outside of the squad when it was hit. The trooper and Stewart were not injured in the incident. Stewart was cited for the Move over Law, Failure to Yield to a Stationary Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

It was the 13th “Move Over Law” related crash this year. The Move Over Law, also known as Scott’s Law, requires all drivers to move over when approaching an emergency vehicle, or any vehicle with its emergency or hazard lights activated.
