Hundreds gathered at Lake Macoupin, the scenic pond behind Sangamon Hall, at Lincoln Land Community College on Friday to cheer on their favorite team during the 2nd Annual LLCC Cardboard Boat Regatta.

12 teams participated in the race. The boats were constructed, as more than one participant mentioned, of cardboard, duct tape and lots of hope.

Creativity was on display with vessels constructed to look like Viking boats, kiyaks, luxury liners, and a ship ablaze!

LLCC Police sponsored the event, and their entry was called Escape from Alcatraz.

One aquatic analyst told WTAX News the ‘smart money’ was on the librarians, and they were right. 1st place went to RV Swan Linc for the 2nd year in a row.

2nd place SS FAFSA

3rd place Boot Scootin’ Boogie

Fastest – RV Swan Linc

Best Engineered – LLCC Games Club

School Spirit – IV Leaguers

Best Decor – RV Swan Linc

and the not-so-coveted TITANIC award for the fastest sinking ship went to the IV Leaguers.
