Drones are becoming more and more a part of our everyday lives. From law enforcement to agriculture to surveying and mapping the technology seems to have infinite potential.

LLCC is making an effort to make the public aware of the many opportunities the new tech provides. To that end they sponsored SkySoar Fest near the Cass Gymnasium Soccer field last Friday to give educators and employers opportunities to meet with the public interested in learning more.

Sangamon Search and Rescue gave demonstrations of their field equipment which they can take on site, launch from their vehicle and monitor the drone’s infrared and optical cameras.

Sangamon Valley RC Club was on hand with nearly a dozen RC airplanes, many of which were small scale reproductions of historical aircraft, including a jet powered F-16 reproduction.

LLCC instructors and students talked about the many jobs the growing industry offers in agriculture, from livestock herding, crop spraying to field monitoring.
