A 31-year-old man is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds after being shot by Lincoln Police during a struggle Thursday night. According to our news partners at WAND TV, officers responded to a home on Rigg Drive for a report of a person suffering a mental health crisis.
Officers found the man armed with a knife and reportedly tried to negotiate with him, but he reportedly refused to drop the knife and surrender. Police say he then lunged at one of the officers with the knife. Police tasered the man but were unable to subdue him. An officer then shot the man, who then ran away.
After another failed negotiation with police, the man was fired on again. Officers were then able to remove the knife from his possession. Per policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the Illinois State Police investigate.
