More than 60 percent of teachers are considering leaving the profession. That’s according to a new survey by Horace Mann, which provides insurance and financial services to educators. Horace Mann’s Kelly Ruwe says 57 percent of those surveyed say they would consider staying for a better salary.  Ruwe adds that more support from parents, communities, and the school district along with safer environments and smaller class sizes also play a role in educator’s job satisfaction.

She points to the “all hands on deck” mentality that is happening in many districts, where even administrators are subbing in classrooms when they can’t get substitute teachers.

Ruwe, appearing on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, says it’s also important to work on the pipeline to increase the number of people choosing to go into education as a career.
