Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Pritzker administration is talking up a proposal to retire Illinoisans’ medical debt. People who qualify under the non-profit Undue Medical Debt owe at least five percent of their annual income … or make up to four times the federal poverty level.
“Health care debt is a uniquely American issue,” Gov. JB Pritzker said at an event in Chicago Monday. “Across our nation, families are forced to reckon with near impossible financial choices as the price tag on care continues to increase, and when an emergency arises, the cost of care is not an optional expense.”
This was a priority in the governor’s State of the State address, though a bill for it has yet to pass through the General Assembly.
