There’s concern over whether Disctrict 186 will meet a 90 day deadline to complete further environmental testing for the site of a future elementary school at 11th and Stevenson.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, board vice president Micah Miller referred to a 2019 report that suggested the seller do a background study to develop a site-specific arsenic concentration for the entire remediation site. He reiterated concerns he raised as the board debated the land purchase in the first place, for the site to host a building to replace Southern View, Hazel Dell, and Laketown schools.

Superintendent Jennifer Gill says the sellers are very willing to work with the district, not against it. The 90 day window officially started Dec. 21. Her recommendation for someone to handle due diligence and further testing will be discussed at the next board meeting, Jan. 17.
