Imagine this: you are a first responder arriving at a school during a hot situation. The principal hands you … a binder full of blueprints. Now there is a move for consistent, advanced technology mapping for schools.

A few years ago, Barbara Hobrock was a school board member and parent of a high schooler in Beardstown. A shooting threat turned out to be nothing, but the lack of orientation was scary.

“We are human,” said Hobrock. “And being in a fight-or-flight situation can cloud judgment, cause confusion, and just be challenging to the process. Each school district should be prepared to the best of their ability at the first responder level while our staff protects our children.”

Senators Thursday announced a bill which would encourage schools to get this kind of map and also make grant money available.

This kind of map was used when the U.S. found and captured Osama bin Laden.
