The war on plastics now focuses on what we’ve been calling Styrofoam.

Andrea Densham of the Alliance for the Great Lakes told a statehouse news conference Wednesday, “To truly tackle the plastic pollution problem, we must move upstream and prevent the pollution at the source. Polystyrene is among the worst of the polluting plastic products. Byproducts from polystyrene production often pollute waterways and air and impacts those most who live near the source of that production.”

Others at the event included Brent Schwoerer (pictured). owner of Engrained Brewery in Springfield. He uses recyclable and compostable products for straws and take-out containers.

These activists say Americans throw away almost 70 million foam cups.

Per day.
