Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Gov. JB Pritzker Monday announced the appointment of James Montgomery as executive director of the Prisoner Review Board. It’s a new position created in the wake of heavy criticism of the agency and of Pritzker’s handling of it.

Montgomery served two terms as the mayor of Montgomery.

The appointment comes on the heels of resignations from former chair Donald Shelton and former board member LeAnn Miller after a released inmate, Crosetti Brand (pictured), allegedly killed a child the day after he left prison.

Pritzker has also called for improved training for the board, reasoning that the changes are necessary based on the fact the panel didn’t consider the prisoner’s domestic violence history before authorizing his release.
