Know someone who isn’t paying for garbage pickup? Where do the candidates stand on reducing fly dumping?
Garbage and large item collection are just two of the topics covered in the Springfield’s Inner City Older Neighborhood’s 15-question survey provided to candidates for mayor and city council. ICON Chair Mark Mahoney says the change is long overdue, and ICON is proposing the city charge residents for garbage collection while still giving citizens their choice of waste provider. ICON is also pushing to enhance the large item pickup program to help keep neighborhoods clean.
The survey also covered topics including the request to stream Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, implementing a publicly accessible database for tracking city code violations, allowing public input at administrative hearings for problem properties, and publishing proposed agreements for remediation of housing and building code violations 24 hours prior to scheduled administrative hearings.
