A 34-year-old Springfield man is facing multiple weapons and drug charges after a search of his residence in the 300 block of East Cedar Street.
On Friday, sheriff’s deputies recovered 12 guns, including rifles, handguns, and an AR-15, parts of eight other firearms, and several hundred rounds of ammunition (some of those in loaded magazines) from the residence of Nicholas Groth. Deputies also recovered over four grams of methamphetamine and a stolen log splitter.
The warrant stemmed from an ongoing burglary investigation involving a recovered UTV. Groth is charged with possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of meth, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card. Groth posted 10 percent of the $100,000 bail and is no longer is custody.
Groth was already on probation from a previous home invasion and domestic battery case. Groth has 22 prior arrests. The burglary remains under investigation.
