The Springfield Menta school is one of three facilities ordered closed by the Illinois State Board of Education because they were operating without state approval. The facilities were operating as therapeutic day schools for students with significant social-emotional disabilities. District 186 Superintendent Jennifer Gill said about 20 students from the district were attending the school and will be transitioned to mentor programs in Taylorville or Nokomis.  According to ISBE, the three Menta facilities, including the Wabash Avenue location, had applied for approval in the spring and none had received approval before opening and enrolling students.
