A Springfield Police Officer, who’s brother happens to be a captain for the Springfield Fire Department, was honored Monday.

Officer Chance Warnisher was honored with the Live Saving Award, which was given to him by Mayor Misty Buscher. Police Chief Ken Scarlette and Fire Chief Ed Canny were also on hand along with the officer’s brother, SFD Captain Clint Warnisher.

On May 28th, Officer Warnisher responded to a call in the 1100 block of North 7th Street, were authorities were notified of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, the Officer noticed several people at the front of the residence, attempting to coax an elderly woman from the burning home.

Officer Warnisher noted the woman was confused and retreated further into the home, so he went around back, kicked a door in, and led the woman to safety.

Warnisher was recognized for his quick thinking an action that brought the woman out safely, but also saved her home by his knowledge of what to do in a fire situation.
