Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell reports a standoff on Springfield’s west side has come to a peaceful end. The 39-year-old man exited his vehicle and was then transported to Memorial Medical Center for further evaluation.

The case started in Spaulding this morning. Riverton Schools were put on lockdown after deputies responded to a report of a man on West Raylots who exhibited signs of harming himself. The man had already left the residence when law enforcement arrived, but was later located on Springfield’s west side.

The man refused to stop for deputies, but was then surrounded on a dead end on Ogden Street near Cockrell Lane around 11 this morning.

Charges are pending.
