A horrific crash cost her husband his arm. Almost as horrific: her family’s insurance company revoking their policy.

State Sen. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) said that incident – and they did get their insurance back – led her to run for the legislature on an insurance-reform platform. So she appeared Tuesday at a bill-signing at which Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law a pair of measures meant to make the industry more consumer-friendly.

One creates an Illinois insurance marketplace, and the other is a rate review law which promises to bring some transparency to how companies set their rates.
