After Springfield Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1600 block of E. Reynolds St. on Tuesday just before 9 a.m., officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the hip. The suspect, 20-year-old Tyrese Thornton of Springfield, was taken into custody around 2 p.m. Tuesday with assistance from the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The victim was treated for the non-life-threatening injury at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Thorton faces charges including aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm-no foid, and domestic battery. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered.
