Springfield, ILĀ (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For at least one middle school teacher, school violence is starting to get personal.
“His safety is my top priority,” said Grant Middle School teacher Wendy Turner, “and Grant is not currently a safe space just this year we have witnessed many fights among students, some resulting in staff injuries. There have been numerous assaults directed at staff myself included, with staff being battered, threatened with battery, sexual assault, and even death. Many of these attacks are chargeable by law, yet consequences are inconsistent and sometimes nonexistent.”
District 186 assistant superintendent Nicole Moody told the WTAX Morning Newswatch Wednesday security has increased at the entries to middle and high schools, and that it’s only 5-10 percent of the student body causing the problems.
