Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Former Sangamon County Sherriff Wes Barr was known for his commitment to charities in the community. Now more than four years after his death, his widow Sherry is leading The Heart of Wes Barr Foundation and the giving continues. According to Sherry Barr, the group has already purchased items including equipment for the Sangamon County Sheriff’s canine unit and honor guard along with an industrial sized refrigerator and freezer for The Ronald McDonald House. The foundation will also be purchasing washers and dryers for Contact Ministries in the near future.

Sherry Barr says the money raised is used to purchase specific items instead of granting monetary donations. Local groups including social service agencies, veterans’ organizations, animal protection agencies, and law enforcement agencies in Sangamon County are eligible.

The Heart of Wes Barr Foundation is hosting the Wes’ Birthday Bash fundraiser on Sunday at Motorheads on Toronto Road starting at noon.
