Springfield’s landlords say they are not the only ones to blame for problem properties.

Tony Nudo responded Tuesday to all that’s been said about how property owners who don’t live here are ducking responsibility. “Everybody wants to push everything back to the owner of the property,” Nudo told aldermen. “There are some things as the owner of the property that I do need to take care of. We need to make all residents of Springfield accountable for what happens in Springfield, and we need their help.”

Afterward, Mayor Misty Buscher said the takeaway from the rental registration discussion Tuesday is: accountability is everybody’s job.

Capital Area Realtors made a presentation about regulations Tuesday. Last Tuesday, aldermen voted not to take one registration proposal off the table.
