Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright has been named as a Seventh Judicial Circuit associate judge filing the vacancy left by the July 23rd death of Associate Judge Matthew Maurer.

The 44-year-old Wright will be assigned to the family division.

A Republican, Wright joined the state’s attorney’s office as a felony assistant state’s attorney in 2016. He was promoted to first assistant state’s attorney in 2017.

Wright was appointed state’s attorney in 2018 succeeding John C. Milhiser who went to work for the Trump Justice Department.

Sangamon County Chair, Andy Van Meter, says he will nominate the twice-elected Milhiser to once again return to the States Attorney’s office.
