Concern about unpaid utility bills is at the center of newly released recordings of a city council executive session. The session is from November 2021. The unpaid utility bills total close to a million dollars. This issue threatens to hold up the sale of the Wyndham Hotel to a New York developer.

City treasurer Misty Buscher, who is challenging Mayor Langfelder in the April election, has said any debt forgiveness over ten thousand dollars should go through the city council.

The hotel’s owner has told the council the only way it can survive is to convert most of the rooms to apartments, though the council has turned down that proposal.
