Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – CWLP wants to soak up some sun and turn it into juice.

The Springfield utility has gotten the OK from the council to enter into a 25-year contract with Sangamon Solar LLC.

The company wants to build a new 100 Megawatt, 750-acre solar installation in Sangamon County south of Chatham.

According to our news partners at WAND-TV construction is expected to begin next year with the facility sending out power by 2028.

Sangamon Solar says the location was selected because of its proximity to CWLP transmission lines.
