(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The institution of marriage is the subject of a new collection of poems by a University of Illinois English professor. Reader, I is the third published collection by Corey Van Landingham.
“I was inundated with the wedding-industrial complex,” she said of planning her wedding, “and targeted ads on Instagram. and I kept seeing over and over again the phrase from Jane Eyre, ‘Reader, I married him.'”
Van Landingham has been married about seven years.
“You’re gaining all of their – not just their family,” in getting married, “but their landscapes, their beliefs. So it becomes like an amalgamation of their entire life and culture.”
