Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Federal money is landing at Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport.

According to the offices of Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, the airport will be getting about $950,000 through the Department of Transportation’s Federal Airport Authority.

The Senators say the money will be used for runway rehabilitation.

“By improving airport infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for increased connectivity and reliability,” said Durbin, in a news release. “This federal funding for Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport will upgrade the airport’s infrastructure and promote economic growth. I will continue working with Senator Duckworth and state, local, and county partners to ensure our state’s regional airports have the necessary federal resources.”

No word on when that will take place, where at the airport, or how long it will take.

“Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is an essential economic hub for the Springfield and the source of jobs for so many working families,” Duckworth said, also in a news release. “I’m proud to join Senator Durbin in announcing this investment of federal funding to help support critical runway improvements. I will continue working to make traveling more efficient and reliable for all passengers while ensuring that our communities are receiving the much-needed federal resources they deserve.”
