Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Come Monday, Ald. Chuck Redpath (pictured) will be the new Springfield city clerk.

One improvement he wants to bring to the office: modernizing the process to request records under the Freedom of Information Act. “If given the opportunity, I will formulate a plan to streamline that and make it better. I know corporation counsel has some concerns with that area,” said Redpath. “I will go in and address that immediately.”

Now that former Sangamon County recorder Josh Langfelder has ended his recount bid, the November election winner, Frank Lesko, has resigned from the clerk’s office. Sources tell WTAX News Redpath indeed has the votes necessary to get the job at a special city council meeting Monday.

Redpath said he would vote for himself and only serve the remainder of the current term, until spring 2027.

While the move extends Redpath’s career in public service, it will not escape note that it also enhances his public pensions.

“I’m gonna get a pension no matter what,” Redpath said in response. “That’s not the reason I am taking the job. I’m a retired state police law enforcement officer and retired from the military, but I have worked every one of those jobs. I am not doing this for the money. I am doing this because I am a public servant, and this is how I want to end my career.”

Now … who around the lake wants to be the new Ward One alderman?
