Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A victims’ rights bill which passed an Illinois Senate committee Tuesday has an unusual story.
“It addresses disparities between the victims’ rights that are allowed for individual victims of things like violent crime and the victims’ rights that were allowed for organized retail theft for stores,” said Sarah Beuning, general counsel to the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. “For the past few years in Illinois, stores and companies that experienced retail theft had enhanced victims’ rights.”
Example: the amount of notice required for victims.
